Bio: Meredith Kimenyi Shepard is Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian Languages and Literatures at Rutgers University. She received her Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University in 2019 with a specialization in African literatures. She subsequently served as Postdoctoral Associate in the Council on African Studies at Yale University. Her current book project, “National Reconciliation Plots” traces the recurrent plotlines across global literatures of reconciliation after civil conflict. She has articles published or forthcoming in The Journal of Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies, Public Books, and Memory Studies. She is also researching a discourse analysis of the Rwandan “hate radio” that fueled the genocide against the Tutsi, as well as an oral history project on the narrative self-representation of the mothers of Black and white mixed-race children in the United States.
