    Dr. Jamal Ali has a PhD from UCLA in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures with a specialization in Arabic. His Ph.D. dissertation was published as Language and Heresy in Ismaili Thought (Gorgias Press, 2008). His research interests include classical Arabic linguistics and Qur'anic Studies.

  • He has been trained by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) to administer oral proficiency exams in Arabic (OPI), and is the author of two valuable books for learners of Arabic: the reference book Using Numbers in Arabic (Georgetown University Press, 2013), and Arabi Liblib: Egyptian Colloquial Arabic for the Advanced Learner (co-author, 3 vols., American University in Cairo Press, 2011).

    At Rutgers he teaches all levels of Arabic as well as Classical Arabic.
