01:013:292 Intermediate Akan (Twi) I, Fall

This is the first part of a two-semester course in Twi as a foreign language on the intermediate level. It assumes participants have taken and passed two semesters of Elementary Twi or have achieved the equivalent by other means. Following the National Standards of the American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the course is intended to develop Intermediate I learners' ability to interpret, communicate and present Twi in the three modes of communication: Interpretive, interpersonal and presentational. It exposes students to vocabulary and the grammatical features of Twi necessary to understand representative intermediate mid-high oral and written texts. To improve students' communicative competence, Communicative Language Teaching Method will be used in classroom teaching. This will allow students to acquire Twi through interactive and collaborative activities via authentic materials and cultural aspects of the language.
